History
Early Iron of Ukiah, Inc. Car Club (EIC) had its first organizational meeting in January, 1981. A search of the early records
reveals that 18 car enthusiasts were in attendance and immediately began the process of creating a non-profit. Officers were elected in March of that year and included; Allen Bazzani – President, Vice President – Chuck Marsh, Secretary – Bill Baxter, and Treasurer – Dean Lay.
The Club was to be open to all classes of vehicles that that were 1958 and older. Members expressed their desire to be a traveling organization that would become strong enough to be invited to any and all runs being held on the north coast.
EIC’s first event was to participate as a group in the Annual Band Review Parade. Mike Bazzani designed the first logo for the
parade banner that traveled down Ukiah’s State Street on May 30, 1981.
By August, EIC completed its Articles of Incorporation and held a car wash to pay for its legal costs. By October members could order patches and tee shirts with the club logo.
By its second year, EIC joined the Association of California Car Clubs and became very active in opposing legislative issues that had adverse implications for older vehicles. Members participated in several rod runs, the Willits Car Show, “Andy’s Picnic, and the Antique Drags in Fremont. Membership increased to about 35-40 members with some dropping out and new folks joining.
EIC sponsored its first Fabulous Flashback Car Show in 1990 which continues today as a very popular event on a busy calendar of car shows in Northern California.
A Commitment to the Community
The Club annually offers one or more scholarships to outstanding high school students in industrial arts who have a desire to further their education. Casey Tollini, of Ukiah and Kevin Hefte of Willits each received their $1,500 scholarship in June, 2003.
For several years club members have set aside time to visit local nursing homes to show the residents their classic cars. This
event brings back great memories and is eagerly awaited by many of the patients.
EIC has now grown to about 75 families and/or individuals who are dues paying members. The Club’s calendar is filled every month
with something interesting to do. In addition to traveling to car shows, we enjoy club activities such as the annual pumpkin run, Christmas lights tour and party, Friday night cruises at local restaurants, progressive dinner, tailgate potluck at the Lakeport Drive-In, etc. Check out our great newsletter for events!
